The Three Lions’ potential XI for the Euro 2020 next year (part 1)

With Euro 2020 postponed for a year, Gareth Southgate has plenty of time to assemble the best team in Europe. Over the years, England’s XI has always been the star studded squad as the Three Lions recruit powerhouse players and some of the most important names in European football. Here are the potential XI of the Three Lions for the Euro 2020 next year:

Dean Henderson (Goalkeeper)

Jordan Pickford has been Southgate’s first choice goalkeeper since 2017 and was a hero at the last World Cup. However, his form recently for his club Everton has been worrying. The other potential pick is Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson who has been impressive in helping the struggling giant climb up back to top of the Premier League table and Europa League contention.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Right Back)

Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the, if not the best right back in this generation. The Premier Leaue season champion looked very comfortable in an England shirt since making the right back spot his own in 2019. This youngster’s clinical and creative skills will give Three Lions an advantage. He should be Southgate’s first-choice right-back, as his inclusion brings quality in those areas.

Joe Gomez (Centre Back)

England has been plagued by unimpressive defence in the past couple of years. To correct that error, Joe Gomez has shown a surprising display for Liverpool that can be used for England’s advantage next year. Gomez has been sensational this season and has slotted in alongside Van Dijk in the right side of Liverpool’s defence. Gomez is certain starter along with Harry Maguire if both of them stays fit.

Harry Maguire (Centre Back)

Another player with a perfect form in defence is Manchester United’s skipper Harry Maguire, who has been often gets criticised for not being the most pleasing defender on the eye. However, Maguire has improved the Old Trafford club at the back this season. Southgate might need this attitude and clinical skills to lead the team in the final rounds of the tournament.

Ben Chilwell (Left Back)

Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell can be the perfect fit for Gomez and Maguire. It is fairly clear that he is the frontrunner in left back position as he has been one of Leicester’s best players this year as they have pushed to secure Champions League football. He has also played there for England in their last three qualifiers in 2019. Next year is the time for him to cement the position for long.
