Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte sets Euro 2020 as target playing with France

The center-back defender Laporte still hasn’t made a complete agreement to play for the World Champions France for its next tournament in a few months away from having Euro 2020, despite getting invited towards the squad from four occasions.

Despite Laporte being part of the accomplished two seasons together with Manchester City, still, no spot was given to the defender for France’s national team.

With his co-teammate Benjamin Mendy that played minimal minutes for Manchester City and being part of the national team, Laporte at the corner of his mind believes he deserves to be one of the champions among France’s team members at this point.

Also, he accused before that France coach Didier Deschamps’ sole decision of excluding him out of the lineup comes from his reasons, yet Deschamps explained that he discarded a lot of left-footed central defenders as well, thus gave his advice for Laporte to keep on working hard and be patient for his time to come and be part of the national team.

“I do not understand. I do not know,” Deschamps told RMC Sport.

“I do not have a problem with anyone. When I choose someone it is not for me. I repeat. I only have one thing to say to him and that is that he continues to perform well.”

“If you tell me he must be in Rami’s place then I stop you right away. Sorry but two left-footed defenders at centre-back at international level, we have a lot of left-footers and few right-footers.”

Coming back fully recovered from his injury, Laporte spoke on the French football show Telefoot about his wretched event: “When it happened, in my head, the truth was I thought ‘Surprise, surprise.’ The day before I’m meant to be going with the France national team, blam. I wouldn’t say I’m cursed, but maybe it was misfortune. You ask yourself a bit ‘Why?’

“No one knows, but I’m back, I’m happy. All is well. I don’t have any pain, so I’m ready and back on the attack.” He added.

The defender also admitted that he aims for another call-up by the end of March to be part of France’s squad for the Euro 2020 tournament and also made talks with Deschamps taking upon his hands personally en route to the team.

“The squad announcement in March? I look at all the squad announcements. I hope that I will be there.” Laporte said.

“It has been bouncing around my head for a while, I spoke with Didier Deschamps about coming back for Les Bleus, I am trying to show that I have the qualities to make the French national team.”

“Certainly, making the Euros at the end of this year would be the best thing.” He added.
