La Liga giants Barcelona joins the race to sign Euro 2020 breakout star Bayer Leverkusen attacker Patrik Schick. Premier League side West Ham United already opened talks regarding a deal to bring Patrik Schick to the London Stadium in the January transfer window. Bayer Leverkusen attacker has also been linked with Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
According to reports, Barcelona have been approached by Schick’s agents to discuss their offer during this summer’s transfer window. Earlier, Newcastle United were reportedly considering signing a number of strikers, including Schick. However, the striker insisted that he is feeling completely satisfied at Leverkusen. “Let’s wait and see,” Schick said when asked about a transfer.
“I’ve changed clubs a lot [six in as many years] so I never had time to feel settled. I’m really happy in Leverkusen and with my life in Germany so at this moment I’m not thinking about being transferred somewhere,” he added. “I watch the Premier League and I like England but that doesn’t mean that if I continue like this I’ll play there.”
The Czech Republic international impressed for the national team at last summer’s European Championship, netting goals on five occasions in five appearances. He is tied with Cristiano Ronaldo on top of goal-scoring records and he won a unique award – Goal of the Tournament – scoring 49.7 yards in the group game against Scotland, the furthest goal ever recorded at the Euro Cup.
Schick has played 67 matches in the Bundesliga, netting 37 goals in total. Currently, he has completed 56 matches with Leverkusen, scoring 31 goals and 56 appearances. This season, he hit an astonishing 18 goals in 20 matches in all competitions. He’s the second top scorer this season, ahead of Dortmund superstar in the making Erling Haaland and behind only Bayern Munich ace Robert Lewandowski.
