All you need to know about Euro 2020 play-offs finals

The eight playoff semi-finals earlier this month has revealed the teams who still have the chance for Euro 2020 berth in the play-offs finals on November 12. The winners of the playoff finals will complete the teams that will compete in the postponed Euro 2020 next year. The 32-team Euro 2020 was due to take place between June 12 and July 12 in countries all across the continent.

Hungary and Iceland advanced following the win against Bulgaria and Romania respectively. Northern Ireland won 4-3 on penalties against Bosnia-Herzegovina, while Slovakia won 4-2 on penalties against Republic of Ireland in Path B. In Path C, Scotland won 5-3 on penalties to oust Israel in the contention, while Serbia won 1-2 against Norway. Georgia and North Kosovo in Path D are also through the finals.

Each of the four play-off paths that contain four teams will have two semifinals and a final. The highest-ranked team in each path will host the fourth-ranked team in one semi-final, with the second-ranked nation hosting the third-ranked nation in the other. The winners of each of the four League finals will qualify for Euro 2020. In November last year, UEFA has decided which team hosts the final via draw.

The play-offs are played in single-leg knockout matches. If the matches are level after 90 minutes, extra time and penalties will be used to determine a winner. The four play-off Path winners will secure the final four places at Euro 2020. Each nation will be placed into Pot 4 in the draw for next summer’s tournament finals, the date and time of which is still to be confirmed.

Path A: Hungary v Iceland

Path B: Northern Ireland v Slovakia

Path C: Serbia v Scotland

Path D: Georgia v North Macedonia
